It takes about 90 minutes (8km) slowly from the middle stream of Kushiro Marsh to the downstream area.

* When the wind is strong, we will guide you to the upper part of the marshland, which is less affected by wind.

* We will choose a canoe to use. Please let us know your weight. Also, If two people are participating and the total weight exceeds 180 kilograms, a large canoe will be required.
In this case, an additional fee of 4,000 yen will be charged.

* In both cases, the time to ride the canoe is about 1 hour and 30 minutes, and tour takes about 2.5hours including transfer,preparation,and packing up the canoe.

  1. You will board the Norokko train departing from Kushiro Station(釧路駅) at 11:06.

  2. You will arrive at the final stop, Toro Station(塘路駅), at 11:51.

  3. You will wait at Toro(塘路) for an hour. (For meals, there is a hamburger restaurant in front of the station and a ramen restaurant called Tancho,(丹頂) which is a 7-minute walk away.)

  4. You will board the Shiretokomashu train departing from Toro(塘路) for Kushiro(釧路) at 13:02.

  5. You will get off at Kushiro-shitsugen Station(釧路湿原駅) at 13:14.

  6. There is the Hosooka Observatory, (細岡展望台)which offers a panoramic view of the Kushiro Marshlands, so after viewing it, You will use the restroom at the Hosooka Visitors Lounge,(細岡ビジターズラウンジ) an adjacent facility, and wait there.
  7. I will pick you up in front of the Hosooka Visitors Lounge(細岡ビジターズラウンジ) at 14:00.
  8. The canoeing will start at 14:20.
  9. The finish will be at 15:40. After that, I will be taken to Kushiro city.
  10. The tour disbanded at 16:30 p.m. in Kushiro city (around the station).

  • Recommended for those without a car!
  • A ticket for the Norokko train is required!
  • Pick up at Hosooka Observatory overlooking the Kushiro Marshlands!
  • Free transfer to Kushiro city after the canoe tour!

  • We can guide group of up to 15 people. (Please note : a reservation for groups of 10 or more is required minimum 2 months in advance)
  • An interpreter must be on board. We require an additional 10,000 yen as an interpreter fee.
  • Children over 3 years old and under 16 years old are 3,000 yen discount.
  • Negotiable for children under 3 years old.

The course features the Kushiro River as it makes it way downstream through the Kushiro Marsh. When it is sunny and there are few trees,  the sky will look even wider and you can feel the magnificent landscape. Also, you can see well the meandering of the Kushiro River from the hilltop observation deck. There is a floodgate called “Iwabokke watergate” that was built for the flood control of the Kushiro River which makes us to feel the history of the region.

It is built stately in the magnificent landscape. it will become one of your most beautiful memories.

Note : When if its strong windy day, sometimes it’s difficult to get to the Iwabokke watergate. in that case, we will offer alternative course for the same price and same time.

  • Our tour will be held in the National Park or in the Ramsar Convention such as Kushiro Wetland. This is the only way to enter with canoe.Appreciate to nature, having a felling of relaxation and letting you entry this paradise.
  • The Kushiro River does not have torrents. Everyone regardless of age or canoe experience, will be able to enjoy with our guides.

  Of course you can only see the beautiful scenery without paddling, or if you want to paddle, both will    be wonderful experience for you.
